Novel Study/Book Review


Here is a list of 21 activities that you need to complete 14 of about the novel that you are reading. You will have 3 weeks to finish reading the novel and complete the 14 activities that go along with it.


Along with the 14 activities you must have a chapter summery for each chapter of your novel. This will be 1 or 2 paragraphs summerising what that chapter was about and what happened.


Your completed novel study will be in book form with a new page for each activity and a cover page that could be a new cover for the actual book.

  1. Pretend that you're the author and describe the part that was the most fun or hardest to write. Explain why.
  2. Describe an experience you've had that was like the experience of a character in the book.
  3. Write an obituary for one character.
  4. Explain how a character in the book changed from the beginning to the end.
  5. If the book has a villain, why was his or her punishment justified.
  6. Explain why you would like to have one of the characters as a friend.
  7. Draw a colour map of where a major part of the story takes place. Label the major landmarks or points of interest.
  8. Tell what you think happened before the story began.
  9. Write another part of the story where you describe what happened to the main character after the story ended.
  10. Explain how you would make your book into a movie-- who would play the main characters, where would you film it etc? You must explain your choices.
  11. Write a different (better?) ending for the story.
  12. Write a letter to the author of the novel.
  13. Write an interview with one of the major characters.
  14. What problems did the major characters have and how did they solve them?
  15. Make a crossword puzzle from your book.
  16. Review the book that you read and compare it to a movie that is like the book. What happened in each and which was better and why?
  17. Find THREE songs that seem to relate to your novel. Write out the lyrics and then write an explanation of how they relate.
  18. Pretend you are a character in the novel and describe the other characters in the novel and what you think of each of them. Explain why.
  19. Make a video tape about part of the book.
  20. Do several pieces of art about the novel.
  21. Write a long poem or rap (20 lines or more) about the book.
